What a sweet story! I’ve loved country music since I was a little girl (at least until recently) and this book struck a cord with me. Trevor, the struggling singer puts aside his career and comes to town to help the family of his recently killed drummer. Aww, what a sweetheart! But Trevor is struggling with his new faith and his reasons for coming to their small town.
This book is so well written I have to give it 4 stars. The story is sweet and interesting and kept my attention. Zane and Lila have been best friends throughout their childhood and adolescence, but when her Amish family expect her to marry within their faith, Zane responds to the uncertainty by joining the army. The story is full of honest emotion and vivid details of both Amish and Army life. I felt like I was really there with them.
What led to this purchase: We don’t have cable (too far out in the country) and satellite TV isn’t in the budget. We do subscribe to Netflix and we have Amazon Prime too, but our outmoded BluRay player doesn’t have Amazon and the poor old Netflix app would barely run. So I asked for a Roku 2 for an early birthday present.
My kids (ages 20 months to 10 years) LOVED this book. The older kids loved the bald eagle and the patriotic poetry while to younger ones liked all the cute animals. The story is all about summer fun surrounding Independence Day, our American heritage, and our beloved patriotic traditions. We would recommend this for ages 10 and under.
