If you’ve been through my blog much at all you’ll know I love all things crafty. I’m not artistic, but I love to craft! I’ve probably dabbled in a bit of everything over the years: paper crafting (stamping, card making, scrapbooking, bullet journaling, etc.), quilting and some small sewing projects, DIY home decor, and I can even do basic crochet.
On top of my personal crafting, we homeschool which automatically equals kids crafts! Simple crafts (or not-so-simple sometimes) are a very effective hands-on way for kids to grasp a concept or remember important information. So I am always on the look-out for ways to store our supplies so they are not only organized, but out of the way yet easy to access.
Now that summer break is upon us we often need craft projects to keep the kiddos from going crazy with boredom. If you craft (especially kids crafts) you will have learned, as I have, craft supplies take up a LOT of space!
The crafty and creative people at Deflecto® sent me some great craft organizers so I could show off some awesome ways to organize all those craft supplies. I invited a few family and friends over to try out these handy organizers and we did a little brush lettering craft {free printable at the end of this post!}
We spread out with all the supplies and organizers and decorated the printable I made.
We used brush markers to color the page then accessorized them. While it was a kid-free afternoon (my kiddos went to the pool!) I encouraged us all to be like kids and have fun decorating.
The Deflecto® organizers made it easy to access the supplies we each decided to use. We could easily pass the smaller bins across the table or roll the caddy as needed.
We even got a man’s perspective when my friend’s husband joined in the fun!
Read on below to learn about the different organizers we tried and the functions of each! Deflecto® offers a wide selection to fit any crafting need.
The Different Organizers
Stackable Caddy Organizer
For space saving this is the ultimate organizer! The caddy has three different size clear bins, each with their own snap-tight lid. The lids are also removable (like the bin with the dry erase markers.) You can stack these caddies and snap them together with the interlocking frames. Each clear bin can be removed and used on its own or hung on the wall mounting bar. The same hooks on each bin that allow it to hang from the wall mounting bar also hold them into the caddy frame.
3-Drawer Organizer
I’ll admit my washi tape (decorative Japanese masking tape) collection has gotten a little out of hand. When I first got into bullet journaling I bought a ton. I still use it in my Happy Planner, but until now I kept it all in a basket and had to rummage through to find “that one roll” I needed at the time. Well, NO MORE! Now I can just open this adorable (and sturdy) 3-drawer organizer and grab the roll I need. This organizer would also hold thread, pens, or just about anything round or flat.
Rotating Carousel
Tiny craft supplies like googly eyes are some of the hardest items to store. Zip baggies aren’t easy for kids to close and rip too easily. This Rotating Carousel has 6 small canisters and 3 large canisters that will hold all kinds of small supplies. I also found the large canisters hold pens! My only complaint is the lids don’t have a latch, they “snap” on, but don’t stay on very well — this could lead to disaster if the toddlers grab the canister.
Expandable Marker Accordion
This is personally my absolute favorite of the Deflecto® line of organizers! I love brush lettering and my collection of brush markers has grown and I’ve been wanting a fun and easy way to store them. This is the perfect solution. This fold-out organizer has 80 holes – well I discovered each hole will hold TWO skinny markers (like my knock-off brush pens and Crayola Super Tips, as well as Microns or regular colored pencils) which means it has the space to hold 160 pens, pencils or markers in one convenient box. The box folds out to make all the writing instruments easy to see and reach. I like how the lid snaps on securely and has a carrying handle.
Interlocking Tilt Bins
These little tilt-open bins are very versatile. They interlock together on any side. The back features a hook that works with the wall mounting bar and holes for mounting directly to the wall with the included screws and anchors. I decided to use mine with my felt letter board letters for easy access instead of storing them in mason jars. Each clear tilt-out bin can be removed from the white housing if you don’t want to move the whole thing.
Wall Mounting Bar
If you want to hang the caddy or interlocking bins on the wall you’ll want the Wall Mounting Bar. The bar is 22″ long and will hold 4 tilt-out bins or a wide combination of the caddy bins. You securely mount the bar on the wall and hook the bins over the upper edge. I love having my dry erase markers and eraser handy at the classroom whiteboard.
Wheel Base for Organizers
Rolling craft carts are all the rage right now. There’s just something super appealing about being able to roll your supplies around the room or from room-to-room as you need them, right? This rolling wheel base securely snaps onto the bottom of the caddy organizers for instant transportation. The wheel base works best with 5 to 10 caddy organizers and will hold a ton of supplies!
Caddy Storage Tray
This little tray may not look like much but it holds a LOT of tiny items like beads, sequins, shells, and more! These trays stack into the caddy organizer OR it will fit in the long caddy organizer bin so you can have a lid on it! It fit perfectly over my stash of pipe cleaners.
